I had the privilege of spending the last four months in Jingdezhen, the Chinese porcelain capital. I worked as Pascale Girardin’s project manager for a piece commissioned by the Four Seasons Hotel in the Pudong district of Shanghai.

In addition to Pascale’s piece, my head was bursting with ideas for new projects. Every day, I paced the Sculpture Factory’s small alleys with my translator and now friend Yu Xue Ping. I met several artisans (model makers, slip casters, master throwers, master glazers and firemen) and discovered new fabrication techniques. I really could not decide which of ideas I should develop among the hundreds that crowded my mind… That is, until Pascale invited me to take part in her new artist residency program, Maison Girardin.
